Dubai gears up for the race
Manama: The countdown is on to the penultimate round of Season 7 as the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East returns to the Dubai Autodrome for the second showdown of February and conclusion of a three leg thriller in the UAE, beginning at Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi last month with the finale early next month.
For seasoned Bahraini driver Jaber Al Khalifa, the upcoming weekend is another opportunity work on his consistent performances and stay on track for silverware. Team Bahrain’s Jaber goes into Round 5 of the Challenge Middle East twelve points clear at the top of the individual driver’s standings in the Bronze category and can take another step towards victory in Dubai, although there is still work to be done the veteran racer is happy with his current form.
Jaber Al Khalifa will be looking for another strong performance at the Dubai Autodrome before the championship heads back to his home country of Bahrain for the season finale.
Speaking ahead of Round 5 Jaber said: “I am enjoying every minute of this championship so far, and on top of that I am making some great progress too. The experience of racing against these incredible drivers at some of the best circuits in the world is just amazing and really is a great platform for not only young aspiring drivers to come and develop but for drivers like myself who have a huge passion for motorsport and enjoy being involved in a professional set-up. I hope to keep progressing and getting as fast as I can and it would be a dream come true to win my category in my home country at the Bahrain International Circuit.”
As Season 7 of the region’s leading one-make series enters its final stages, the provision of a platform for local racing talent to take developing steps in their careers has once again been a hallmark of the series. As Zaid Ashkanani has affirmed his status as one of the Middle East’s most promising and most talented young drivers, new racers such as Saudi Arabia’s Saud AlFaisal and Qatar-based Charlie Frijns.
