MMA Amateurs championship a big success

HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and founder of Khalid Hamad Khalifa Mixed Martial Arts (KHK MMA) team praised the high levels seen in the first MMA Amateurs Championship 2016 on Saturday.

The championship was part of the “Yalla Riyadha” (Let’s Play Sport) organised by the Youth and Sports Ministry at Khalifa Sports City in Isa Town.

Shaikh Khalid said the championship had achieved the goals that serve to develop and promote this sport, noting this is the start of a breakthrough for the MMA championship this year and its support at the local level amongst the youth and forming a strong base.

He witnessed all 14 bouts alongside Shaikh Khalifa bin Ali bin Isa Al Khalifa, Shaikh Faisal bin Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Hisham bin Mohammed Al Jowder, Minister of Youth and Sports Affairs, Abdulrahman Askar, General Secretary of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, Engineer Ahmed Al Khayyat, President of the Bahrain Martial Arts Association and a number of deputies and officials of youth and sports sector in the Kingdom.

The championship saw the participation of 30 fighters from five countries - hosts Bahrain, Kuwait, Palestine, Ukraine, US and members of the KHK MMA amateur team.
