The Women in Sport Committee at the Supreme Council for Women (SCW) held its second meeting, chaired by Dr. Shaikha Hessa bint Khalid Al Khalifa, SCW member and committee chair.
The committee reviewed its work plan for 2026–2027, which focuses on developing recommendations and proposing policies and programmes aimed at enhancing women’s participation across various sports disciplines. The plan also seeks to ensure that women’s needs are effectively integrated into national strategies and initiatives supporting the growth of women’s sport, in line with principles of equal opportunity and gender balance.
Discussions also covered performance indicators for women in sport under the National Plan for the Advancement of Bahraini Women (2025–2026), reflecting ongoing efforts to strengthen monitoring and evaluation frameworks for women-focused sports initiatives.
During the meeting, Wafa Issa Aoun, committee member and Administrative Affairs Adviser at the General Sports Authority, presented an overview of the roles and responsibilities of relevant government entities within the sports sector. Her presentation highlighted the importance of strengthening coordination mechanisms and enhancing cooperation among institutions to support the development of women’s sports in Bahrain.
