Mumbai Indians opened their IPL 2026 campaign with a six-wicket demolition of Kolkata Knight Riders, chasing down 221 with five balls to spare at the Wankhede Stadium yesterday.
Captain Rohit Sharma smashed 78 off 38 balls and South African left-hander Ryan Rickelton pummeled 81 off 43 in a whirlwind 148-run opening stand that broke the back of the chase.
Earlier, Ajinkya Rahane’s polished 67 and Angkrish Raghuvanshi’s 51 powered KKR to 220-4, with Rinku Singh adding an unbeaten 33 as Shardul Thakur’s 3-39 provided Mumbai’s main control with the ball.
But Mumbai’s top order, aided by brisk cameos from Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya, ensured the five-time champions cruised to their first points of the season.
