Muharraq, Manama Set for Khalifa bin Salman Cup Final

The 2025-26 Khalifa bin Salman Cup reaches its climax tonight as holders Muharraq Club take on Manama Club at 7pm in Khalifa Sports City Arena. Both sides arrive in excellent form, having dominated their paths to the final, setting the stage for a fascinating final that will crown Bahrain’s newest basketball champion.

Muharraq have been relentless throughout the tournament. They opened with a record-smashing 153-94 victory over Sitra Club and carried that momentum into the semi-finals, sweeping Al Ahli Club 93-87 and 96-80. Depth, precision, and consistency have defined their campaign, and they aim to extend their streak tonight.

Manama’s journey has been marked by resilience and timely contributions. After victories over Al-Hala SC and Ettihad, they faced Al Najma Club in the semi-finals. Two tightly contested wins, led by Ali Jaber, Hasan Nowrooz, and Alex Young, secured their place in the championship and highlighted their ability to perform under pressure.

The head-to-head record favors the defending champions. The Red Wolves have claimed all three league meetings against Manama this season and also triumphed in the Super Cup before the league began. Confidence is high, but finals are always decided by fine margins.

The Khalifa bin Salman Cup has built a rich legacy since 2017. Muharraq lifted the inaugural trophy, followed by Manama in 2018, Riffa in 2019, and Al Ahli with three consecutive wins from 2020 to 2022. Manama returned with back-to-back crowns in 2023 and 2024, before Muharraq reclaimed the cup in 2025. Tonight, the 2026 champion will be determined, adding a new chapter to this competitive history.

Roster strength and experience will play a key role. Muharraq, guided by German coach Peter Schomers, are anchored by captain Bader Abdulla Malabes, the tournament’s all-time top scorer with 464 points. Manama’s Hasan Nowrooz is close behind with 461, adding an intriguing personal duel to the team rivalry. Muharraq will also rely on Mohammed Ameer, Mahmood Abbas Isa, and imports Nicholas West and Kris Clyburn. Manama, under coach Salman Ramadhan, field experienced locals including Ahmed Salman and Ali Jaber, complemented by Alex Young and Romeo Enan. The absence of forward Subah Hussain due to injury presents a significant challenge for Manama.

While the Red Wolves are favorites on paper, finals often hinge on execution and composure. Muharraq holds two Khalifa Bin Salman Cup titles and both Manama and Al Ahli have three. Tonight's clash gives Muharraq a chance to tie the leaders, or Manama a chance to extend their lead.
