Thrilling semi-finals set at ITF Junior Tennis in Bahrain

The ITF Junior Tennis Tournament (J30) in Bahrain has reached the semi-final stage after a series of closely contested quarter-final matches in the boys’ and girls’ singles competitions.

In the boys’ draw, Russia’s sixth seed Nikita Davidovsky delivered one of the biggest upsets by defeating top seed Javier Montes Jimenez of Spain 7-6, 7-5. Fellow Russian Andrey Li also advanced after beating compatriot Sergei Bankov 7-5, 6-2, while Canada’s Philip Malis secured his place with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Russia’s Yakov Mazin. Second seed Akhmadi Makhanov of Kazakhstan completed the semi-final lineup after a 6-0, 7-6 win over Romania’s Tudor Alexandru Zekiro.

In the girls’ singles, Turkey’s Asya Ay continued her strong run by overcoming Russia’s Maria Kovaleva 6-1, 7-6. Russia’s Sofia Bizyanova advanced with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over compatriot Stefania Kadzova, while third seed Daniella Isina defeated Turkey’s Kaira Benbay 6-0, 6-4. Russia’s sixth seed Yulia Andreeva rounded off the semi-final field with a comeback 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-2 win over India’s Vasundra Balaji.
