Bahrain’s U23 football team was eliminated from the Arabian Gulf Cup under-23 tournament yesterday following a 1-0 defeat to hosts Qatar at Aspire Zone 2 in Doha. The only goal came in the 4th minute of stoppage time, bringing an end to Bahrain’s campaign without a point.
Managed by Ali Abdulmajeed, Bahrain had also lost their opening match to Saudi Arabia and now sit at the bottom of Group A alongside Kuwait, who are also out of the tournament. Qatar, coached by Ilídio Vale, advanced to the semi-finals and will face Saudi Arabia in the last four.
Saudi Arabia secured their semi-final spot on the same day with a 1-0 win over Kuwait. Abdulla Radeef scored the decisive goal in the 61st minute, calmly striking the ball into the top corner after it was rolled to him in the box, with no pressure from defenders.
Bahrain will conclude their group stage against Kuwait on Thursday at 1:30 PM at Aspire Zone 2, but the result will not affect the standings. The team will look to finish the tournament on a more positive note despite an early exit.
