Falconry championship underway

Competitions got underway yesterday in the Bahrain Tournament for Falcon and Hunting in the Al Sabka area near Bahrain International Endurance Village with the participation of 1500 local and regional contestants.

HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and President of Bahrain Olympic Committee deputised HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and President of Bahrain Athletics Association to attend the opening ceremony of the tournament, which was also attended by HH Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid, President of Bahrain Royal Equestrian and Endurance Federation and a number of Royal Family members.

Shaikh Khalid inspected the tournament site and with heads of the organising committees and the participants on the first day and lauded the efforts of the organising committee for a successful championship.

He said the tournament comes following efforts by Shaikh Nasser to strengthen traditional sports and promote national heritage among the younger generations, wishing success to all over the next five weeks.

Shaikh Faisal also hailed Shaikh Nasser for his support in preserving the traditions of the people of Bahrain and the GCC region. A large crowd of spectators witnessed the first day of competition which continues today and tomorrow and being covered by Bahrain Sports Channel and Al Sahraa TV Channel.
