Verstappen Wins US Sprint as McLarens Crash Out
Max Verstappen reignited his Formula One title campaign with a commanding win in the US Grand Prix sprint race on Saturday, after a dramatic early crash forced both McLaren drivers out of contention.
The race took a chaotic turn at the first corner when championship leader Oscar Piastri was clipped by Nico Hülkenberg, sending his McLaren spinning into teammate Lando Norris. Both drivers suffered terminal damage, ending McLaren’s hopes of scoring points in the sprint.
Starting from pole position, Verstappen capitalized on the incident to pull away from the field and secure a crucial victory, cutting Piastri’s lead in the drivers’ standings to 55 points ahead of Sunday’s main Grand Prix in Austin.
The Dutchman’s dominant display sets the stage for a tense showdown as the season nears its final rounds.
