AYG welcomes Pencak Silat as 2 new sports are included

In a significant development for the upcoming Asian Youth Games (AYG), Mr. Yusuf Duaij, Chairman of the Executive Committee, welcomed Mr. Teddy Suratmadji, the Head Coach of Pencak Silat, along with his accompanying delegation and a representative from the Indonesian Embassy in Bahrain. The meeting took place at the committee’s premises in Seef. The meeting was also attended by Mr. Lounes Madene, the Games’ Sports Director.

The organizing committee, in collaboration with the Olympic Council of Asia, has officially added Pencak Silat and Kurash, increasing the total number of sports in the Games from 24 to 26. This year’s event will be hosted in the Kingdom of Bahrain from October 22 to 31, 2025.

Mr. Duaij expressed his warm welcome to Mr. Suratmadji and his team, emphasizing the committee’s commitment to preparing and organizing the Pencak Silat competitions to the highest standards. He acknowledged the sport’s widespread popularity across many regions in Asia, marking it as a valuable addition to the Games. Pencak Silat events are scheduled for October 19 and 20.

Furthermore, Mr. Duaij reaffirmed the Executive Committee’s dedication to ensuring the success of Pencak Silat and all other sports, in line with the directives of His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, Chairman of the General Sports Authority, and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee. He wished the coaching team the best of luck in managing the Pencak Silat competitions.
