Rory McIlroy to Headline 2026 Hero Dubai Desert Classic
Dubai, UAE – September 17, 2025 – Fresh off a historic year in which he completed the career Grand Slam at Augusta National, Rory McIlroy has confirmed he will return to Emirates Golf Club to headline the 2026 Hero Dubai Desert Classic, scheduled from 22–25 January 2026.
The five-time Major winner, currently leading the Race to Dubai Rankings and preparing to defend Europe’s Ryder Cup next week, will be aiming for a record fifth Dallah Trophy at the tournament often hailed as the “Major of the Middle East.” The 2026 edition promises new attractions and entertainment, offering fans an unforgettable experience and cementing the event’s place as a highlight of the UAE’s sporting and social calendar.
McIlroy’s 2026 appearance will mark 20 years since his debut at the tournament as an amateur in 2006. He claimed his first Hero Dubai Desert Classic title in 2009 at age 19—his first professional victory—before adding wins in 2015, 2023, and 2024. His dramatic 2024 comeback secured a record fourth title, reinforcing his enduring bond with the tournament and its fans.
“It’s been a very special year for me, and I’m excited about what’s still to come,” said McIlroy, currently ranked World Number Two. “The Hero Dubai Desert Classic has always been one of my favourite tournaments, and I’m really looking forward to returning to Emirates Golf Club in January. I consider Dubai a second home—the support there is always incredible, and it’s the perfect place to start the year.”
Beyond world-class golf, the Hero Dubai Desert Classic will once again deliver a vibrant festival atmosphere. Tournament Town will host live entertainment, family activities, food trucks, arts and crafts, and interactive experiences for all ages, making it a perfect outing for friends and families alike.
