HH Khalid bin Hamad’s event draws 50 competitors in Amwaj Islands
The organising committee of the 8th Nasser bin Hamad Marine Heritage Season is set to host the Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa Breath-Holding Contest on Friday in the waters near Amwaj Islands Marina. Fifty participants will compete to stay submerged at a depth of two metres, with the ten longest performers declared winners.
Pre-Event Briefing
Ahead of the competition, organisers held an orientation session for all entrants. Regulations, scoring methods, and strict safety procedures were explained, with an emphasis on prioritising participant well-being. Coordination has also been made with partner entities to ensure smooth delivery of the event at the highest standards.
Focus on Safety
Mishal Al Anzi, representing the organising committee, underlined the importance of a safe and controlled environment for the contest. He confirmed that all equipment and measures have been put in place to safeguard competitors throughout the challenge.
Cultural Spirit
Al Anzi also noted the large turnout reflects Bahraini society’s passion for marine heritage and young people’s willingness to engage in sports that preserve national traditions.
Season Context
The breath-holding competition is one of the highlights of the Nasser bin Hamad Marine Heritage Sports Season, which began in July and will continue through mid-November.
