Bahrain Karate Team Win Three Medals at Arab Championship

Dana Abdullah and Fatima Yousif secure bronze medals

Tournament held in Jordan with wide Arab participation

Bahrain’s national karate team won three medals at the Arab Karate Championship, hosted in Amman, Jordan, from August 19 to 22 with the participation of national teams from across the region.

Abdullah Bassam won silver in the U-52kg children’s category after impressive wins over Lebanon (7-1) and Jordan (4-0), before falling narrowly to another Jordanian in the final. Dana Abdullah then took bronze in the U-42kg class, beating her Jordanian rival 6-0. Fatima Yousif added a second bronze in the senior U-55kg division, despite a 6-1 loss to Jordan.

Other Bahraini competitors faced tough draws. Fawzia Al Amiri (juniors) was denied a result against a Jordanian opponent after a 6-6 tie went to a controversial referee’s decision (2-2). Olympic-level athlete Yousif Nawaf was beaten by world number one Mohammed Jafri of Jordan, before bowing out to Qatar in the repechage. Fatima Falamarzi (Olympic category) lost her opener 9-1 to Saudi Arabia.

The Bahraini delegation was led by coach Bassam Eid and administrator Mohammed Saijan, alongside athletes Dana Abdullah, Abdullah Bassam, Fawzia Al Amiri, Fatima Falamarzi, Yousif Nawaf, and Fatima Yousif.
