Heinrich Klaasen smashed an unbeaten 105 off just 39 balls to lead Sunrisers Hyderabad to a massive 278-3 — the third-highest total in IPL history — as they thrashed Kolkata Knight Riders by 110 runs on Sunday in Delhi.

With both teams out of playoff contention, Hyderabad elected to bat. Opener Travis Head gave them a flying start with a 40-ball 76, supported by Abhishek Sharma’s quick 32. Klaasen, promoted to number three, dominated with seven fours and nine sixes.

Kolkata, last year’s champions, were bowled out for 168 in 18.4 overs, ending the season in eighth place. Hyderabad finished with six wins and seven losses.

“It’s been a long season of disappointment,” Klaasen said. “I stuck to my processes and found form at the right time.”

Hyderabad now boasts four of the top IPL totals, including the all-time highest score of 287-3 against Bengaluru last year. This season, they also hit 286-6 and 277-3.

Jaydev Unadkat, Eshan Malinga, and Harsh Dubey claimed three wickets each. Kolkata skipper Ajinkya Rahane said there were “no regrets” as they look ahead to next season.
