Standing Up for Canada
Canada’s head coach Jesse Marsch didn’t hold back when addressing U.S. President Donald Trump’s repeated remarks about Canada becoming America’s 51st state. Speaking at a CONCACAF Nations League media day, Marsch called the rhetoric “unsettling and frankly insulting.”
Pride Over Politics
Marsch, who took over as Canada’s coach last May, praised the country’s values, contrasting them with what he sees as a divisive atmosphere in the U.S. "Canada is a strong, independent nation, deep-rooted in decency, high ethics, and respect," he stated.
Fuel for the Fight
With Canada set to face Mexico in the Nations League semi-finals on March 20, Marsch believes the controversy will only strengthen his squad’s resolve. "This will fuel our team… we will show on and off the pitch exactly what Canadian character is."
