In a landmark move for Bahrain’s grassroots basketball scene, the inaugural edition of the “Freij Al-Dhahab” 3x3 Basketball League is set to launch tomorrow, Saturday, in the heart of Muharraq.
The action unfolds at the Al Shorouq Court in Diyar Al-Muharraq, where 22 teams—each carrying the name of a historic Muharraq neighborhood—will battle for supremacy. These teams have been divided into seven groups, setting the stage for an intense fight to secure a spot in the knockout rounds.
The “Freij Al-Dhahab” League is an extension of the visionary “Freij Courts” project, one of several groundbreaking initiatives launched by His Highness Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Humanitarian Works and Youth Affairs and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports. Under the guidance of Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad, the General Sports Authority, in collaboration with the Bahrain Basketball Association, has brought this league to life as part of the “Golden Generation” initiative, designed to foster young talent and strengthen Bahrain’s sports infrastructure.
At its core, “Freij Al-Dhahab” is about more than just competition. It represents a larger mission—to encourage youth participation in sports, promote a healthy lifestyle from an early age, and reinforce the role of community sports in shaping character. The initiative is also a vehicle for instilling national pride, sportsmanship, and the values of tolerance and fair play among Bahrain’s next generation of athletes.
With its dynamic 3x3 format, historic setting, and deep community roots, the “Freij Al-Dhahab” Basketball League promises to be a game-changer in Bahrain’s sporting landscape, igniting a new era of passion and excellence on the courts of the Kingdom.
