The Living Business 2021 programme kicked off in March is supporting companies in their transition to a net-zero global economy, in association with HSBC.

At the heart of the plan is a pledge to reach net-zero by 2050, or sooner in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement.

Out of more than a hundred companies, 71 have started or undertaken projects to make themselves or their industry more sustainable.

To qualify, the businesses must, during 2021, implement or commence implementation of a change which:

Reduces the business’s or industry’s environmental footprint (e.g., saving of water, energy or waste or the introduction of a transformation innovation) and/or

Enhances the social capital of the business including the health, safety, wellbeing or skills of its staff or improves the wellbeing of its customers.

Creates a sustainable governance framework, including engagement, reporting and transparency.

Over this period, Kingdom Pride Center said, the centre introduced sustainable products such as toys made of recycled material, bamboo toothbrushes and eco-friendly food containers, together with cloth and paper bags for shoppers to place their merchandise.

As an added incentive, the centre said it also offers a 0.025 fils discount for any customer who brings their shopping bag from home.

Kingdom Pride Center aims to provide its customers with a wide range of affordable quality products.

“If you can fit your mobile in your back pocket, why not leave your reusable shopping bag in your car? It’s great to grow your business while doing your part for your country and the planet too,” said store manager Naveen Shekar.

This is their start towards helping reduce the consumption of plastic bags, together with supporting Bahrain s Sustainable Development Goals.

Living Business will now present how these businesses are improving their environmental and social footprints, thereby making their countries: UAE, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar and Egypt, more sustainable.

Competitors are in three categories: Small, Medium and Corporate sized businesses.

Kingdom Pride Centre is the only small business participating in Bahrain.
