East Sitra City is set to open its first major supermarket after a lease tender for a 1,299.34 square metre facility was awarded to Al Sater Market.
The project, announced through the Tender Board's monthly awards report, will establish a supermarket inside the new housing city developed by Eskan Bank, providing residents with convenient access to groceries, household items and daily essentials.
The new outlet is expected to reduce the need for residents to travel to neighbouring areas for basic shopping needs as the city continues to grow.
East Sitra City has started welcoming its first residents following the handover of homes under the housing project. Development work continues on additional homes, infrastructure and public facilities.
The first phase included the handover of 1,077 homes in early 2024, while a second phase covering 531 homes is currently being delivered to beneficiaries. A third phase includes 1,269 homes, along with 563 housing plots planned for future development.
Once completed, East Sitra City is expected to accommodate more than 20,000 residents.
The masterplan includes schools, kindergartens, healthcare facilities, mosques, youth centres, retail outlets, shopping centres and other community services.
The supermarket project marks one of the first major commercial developments in the area, with more retail and private service projects expected as the population increases.
