American Mission Hospital and RCSI Medical University of Bahrain sign strategic agreement

Manama I n the presence of His Excellency Lieutenant General Dr Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Supreme Council of Health, American Mission Hospital (AMH) and the Royal College Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) - Medical University of Bahrain signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalise and strengthen their collaboration in healthcare education, clinical training and healthcare research in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Future professionals
Building on the longstanding relationship between the two not-for-profit organisations, the agreement establishes a strategic framework to expand joint initiatives supporting the education and training of future healthcare professionals across undergraduate and clinical postgraduate levels, including the internship and Arab Board programmes.
The signing ceremony was attended by Her Excellency Dr Maryam Al Jalahma, Chief Executive Officer of Government Hospitals, Professor Cathal Kelly, Vice Chancellor of RCSI in Dublin, during his official visit to the Kingdom of Bahrain, Professor Sameer Otoom, President of RCSI Medical University of Bahrain, Dr George Cheriyan, Corporate CEO of American Mission Hospital, Dr Deepak Abraham, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of American Mission Hospital, alongside academics and representatives from both organisations.
On the occasion, Professor Otoom commented: “Our collaboration with American Mission Hospital reflects a shared commitment to advancing healthcare education and strengthening clinical training in Bahrain. Formalising this partnership through the Memorandum of Understanding provides an important platform to further develop initiatives that benefit our students, support the professional growth of healthcare practitioners and contribute to the continued evolution of the healthcare sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain.”
Dr Cheriyan affirmed: “We are proud to strengthen our strategic partnership with RCSI Medical University of Bahrain through this agreement, which marks a significant step in aligning healthcare education with the evolving demands of clinical practice. By deepening this collaboration, we aim to expand high-quality training pathways and enhance the exchange of expertise, strengthening workforce capability and elevating the standard of care delivered to achieve improved health outcomes for the wider community.”
Shared use of educational facilities
Collaboration between the two institutions encompasses the shared use of educational facilities for medical and nursing students, interns, and clinical specialties, complemented by joint academic and clinical appointments across multiple specialties in medicine and nursing, as well as the delivery of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programmes.
Through this agreement, American Mission Hospital and RCSI Medical University of Bahrain reinforce their shared commitment to advancing healthcare education and clinical training while strengthening collaboration between academia and healthcare providers in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
