Telegram rolled out a major AI-focused update on March 31, 2026, introducing a built-in text editor powered by open-source models and an upgraded Bot API that allows bots to create and manage other bots autonomously.
The new AI Editor is integrated directly into the message bar, enabling users to rewrite, translate, or correct text in just a few taps. It activates once a message exceeds a few lines and offers a range of styles from formal and concise to more creative tones like Viking or Biblical. Telegram says all processing is handled through the Cocoon Network, designed as a “zero-access” system that keeps user data private.
Features
This privacy-first approach sets Telegram apart from some competitors that rely on centralized servers for AI processing, potentially appealing to users concerned about data security.
A key highlight is the expansion of the Bot API. Users can now deploy bots that create and manage other bots without needing coding skills. This is expected to drive wider adoption of automation tools across communities, particularly among trading and crypto groups. However, it may also increase the risk of spam and malicious bot activity as barriers to entry drop.
Telegram has also enhanced its polling features, adding options such as media attachments, user-suggested responses, time-limited polls with hidden results, and visible voter identities. These tools improve transparency and functionality for group decision-making and sentiment tracking.
Additional updates include support for Live Photos on iOS, Motion Photos on Android, and a document scanner for iOS users. The platform has also introduced security warnings for accounts using third-party apps, indicating that such communications may be less secure.
Overall, the update positions Telegram as a more powerful, AI-driven platform, with clear relevance for Bahrain’s increasingly digital-first users.
