Spotify Introduces Major Lyrics Feature Upgrades

Spotify has unveiled a major expansion of its lyrics features, giving listeners more ways to engage with song words no matter where they are or what language they speak. The updates, rolling out globally, make lyrics easier to access, understand and enjoy across both free and paid accounts.
One of the biggest additions is lyric translations. Launched initially in a limited number of markets in 2022, the feature is now available to users around the world. For tracks that support translations, tapping the translate icon in the lyrics view will show the translated lines beneath the original words in the listener’s device language, with the option to revert to the original text at any time.
Spotify is also introducing offline lyrics a benefit for Premium subscribers. When a song is downloaded for offline listening, its accompanied lyrics are saved automatically too. This means that listeners can view words during commutes, flights or in areas with poor signal without needing an active internet connection.
In addition, the platform is rolling out lyric previews, placing snippets of lyrics directly below album artwork or video clips during playback. Early tests suggest this on-screen positioning makes it easier for users to follow along and rediscover songs they’ve heard before. Users can still share favourite lines directly from the Now Playing view, and those who prefer not to see the previews can turn them off through a menu option.
Spotify’s new rollout applies across iOS and Android devices for both free and Premium users, though the offline lyric capability remains restricted to paid subscribers. The company says the enhancements reflect ongoing efforts to deepen the connection fans have with music and the artists they love.
