The High Shari’a Court granted a Bahraini woman an “irrevocable faultbased divorce” for her husband’s inappropriate and unacceptable behaviour that violated the principles of Sharia and common decency.

During the trial, the wife’s lawyer told the Court that the man had subjected his wife to verbal and physical abuse and neglected to provide financial support despite being employed and wealthy.

The husband is also accused of taking psychotropic drugs and developing an addiction during their threeyear marriage.

The lawyer also informed the Court that the man had attempted suicide multiple times and had to be hospitalized and treated at a psychiatric facility after an overdose.

Despite efforts by the Family Reconciliation Office to reconcile the couple, it was deemed that they were incompatible and hence referred to the Court.

The wife’s lawyer submitted evidence of the damages she had suffered, and the Court conducted an investigation and heard testimony from both parties.

It was found that the husband had physically abused his wife and was suspicious of her actions.

Even after the families had tried to reconcile, the husband had admitted to suffering from mental illness and paranoia and had previously attempted suicide.

Witnesses also confirmed that he had caused bruises on his wife’s body during an incident of assault.
