Bahrain’s municipal work system attaches great importance in the advancement of urban infrastructure and improving their quality in different regions of the Kingdom, said a top works ministry official. Sheikh Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, the Undersecretary for Municipal Affairs at the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, was handing over one of the houses built as part of the renovation project in the Hidd area 104.

“Most of these houses needed preservation of their old architectural features, and we completed them in cooperation with the cultural authority.” Shawqia Humaidan, Assistant Undersecretary for Joint Municipal Services, Ibrahim Al-Jowder, the Muharraq Municipality director-general, Abdulaziz Al-Kaabi, a member of the Muharraq Municipal Council, Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, the Director of the National Heritage Department at Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, and specialists from the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, were present.

“The house located in Hidd Complex 104, and having an area of 185 square meters, was renovated while maintaining its outer wall height of two floors, considering the architectural and heritage value it owns,” said Sheikh Muhammad.

He said the ministry is continuing to work on other houses included in the project, in coordination with the municipal councils and the Culture and Heritage Authority. “The Cities and Villages Development Project is one of the important projects the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning takes great interest in, as it caters to families with limited income and secures them a decent life,” he stressed.
