Road safety measures in place for school year
A number of traffic personnel to be deployed at main roads and busy junctions

With the reopening of schools round the corner, a number of traffic regulations are being implemented to ensure safe and smooth flow of traffic near schools.
The Director-General of Traffic Shaikh Nasser bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa said yesterday the department had devised a comprehensive ‘Back to School’ campaign for the upcoming academic year for all roads to ensure the same.
This move is in compliance with the directives of Interior Minister Lt-General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa.
Many traffic personnel were deployed to deal with the expected changes in traffic flow from the day of reopening especially near main roads and at highly congested junctions in all governorates, Shaikh Nasser said.
He said his department is tying up the security directorates associated in regulating traffic near schools and education zones.
He also referred to the assistance of community police and school guards who had attended relevant traffic courses.
He also requested motorists leave home early after the reopening of schools to avoid becoming late for work to due to traffic congestion.
They should also cooperate with the traffic personnel and follow traffic rules, especially near schools.
He said the department has prepared an awareness programme, including the proper way of crossing a road and driving a bicycle. The programmes are regularly organised at the beginning of each academic year.
The Director-General urged parents not to hire drivers who are not authorised by the department, to transport students. He also wished a happy and successful academic year for all.
