Asian national held for gold heist from shop

Manama

The Interior Ministry yesterday announced the arrest of an Asian national, who robbed a jewellery shop at Gold Souq in Manama. According to the Ministry, the man had robbed the shop disguising himself in woman's clothes.

"The Director-General of the Capital Governorate Police on Tuesday announced the arrest of an Asian man wearing women’s clothes, who had robbed BD2,400 worth of jewellery from a shop at Gold Souq in Manama. The robber was nabbed within two hours after the case had been reported," the Ministry stated.

"The Director-General said that an investigation team collected the evidence that led to the identification and arrest of the suspect. The jewellery had been seized from him,” it stated. “Legal steps will be taken to refer the case to the Public Prosecutor."

According to a source from the Gold Souq, a robbery took place in a small jewellery shop managed by an Indian national in broad daylight. Meanwhile, the owner of the shop wants to withdraw the case against the culprit, as he is his family member. However, it could not be verified whether both the incidents are of the same shop.

"A robbery did happen and it was later found that the robber was a family member of the manager of the shop. But there is still no confirmation about whether this is the same incident in which the culprit came disguised," the source added.
