Website lures to grab McDonald’s ‘big offer’

In a latest fraudulent activity on the Internet platform, the social media is abuzz with a scam targeting the Bahrainis with offers of BD500 worth prizes. 

The website scam, which claims to be a promotion by the fast food chain McDonald’s, is circulating on Bahraini forums and social media circles. 

The website asks the social media users to take a quick survey to win gift vouchers. Many netizens have posted links to the impish website unaware of consequences. 

According to the website, taking a survey would give users the chance to win vouchers worth BD500. It also claims to have 150 such vouchers with them, supposedly up for
grabs. 

“Take one minute survey to get a BHD500 McDonald’s voucher. McDonalds is expanding in Manama. Because of this, we need your feedback,” posted on the website. The first question in the survey is, “Are you a regular McDonalds customer?” interestingly, the name McDonald’s had been written in different ways in the offer.

When contacted,  McD-onad’s Bahrain has clarified that the website is not associated with them. “It’s entirely a hoax. It has nothing to do with McDonald’s Bahrain. Even the logo they used is an old logo,” a senior representative of McDonald’s informed. 

According to him, the scam is not restricted to Bahrain. “It’s happening in many countries, not only Bahrain. If you were in another country, the scam would be tailor-made for that country,” he added.
