Fine finish for Shaikh Nasser

Manama : HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of Bahrain Olympic Committee was placed 27th in his category among 3,000 international contestants at the Ironman World Championship, held in Chattanooga, US this weekend.

Shaikh Nasser completed all stages of the race clocking 4 hours 27 minutes and 21 seconds as he completed the 1.9km swim in 31 minutes 30 seconds, the 90km of cycling in two hours 22 minutes and running the 21.1km in one hour 28 minutes.

Shaikh Nasser dedicated his performance to HM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa expressing his sincere gratitude and appreciation for his support in his participation at the World Championship. 

Shaikh Nasser also expressed his ambition to promote the Kingdom’s achievements in developmental, economic, tourist and cultural sectors under King Hamad’s reign and praised the results of the Bahrain team members.

At the end of the race, Shaikh Nasser was congratulated by other participants and officials, including Bahrain’s ambassador to the US, Shaikh Abdullah bin Rashid Al Khalifa. 

The Bahraini team scored positive results during the race and all successfully completed the three stages. 

Spanish team member Mikel Calahorra (4:34:00) was ranked 59th in his category.

Other team members were Bahraini Mohammed Al Ghais (4:52:00), Khalid Buallay (5:05:00), Jassim Al Bastaki (5:47:00) and Hamad Al Mansouri (5:30:00).

Calahorra stated that the race was tough, with the participation the world’s top athletes and congratulated Shaikh Nasser on his achievement.

Other team members expressed great pleasure in representing the Kingdom and the positive results.

In another achievement, the Bahrain Endurance 13 Team contestant Javier Gomez (3:49:45) won the Ironman Professional World Championship after finishing all stages of the race and teammate Daniela Ryf won the Ladies World Triathlon Championship, held on Saturday.
