ManamaBritish player Tom Thelwall Jones upset top seeded Egyptian Mohamad Gomaa (Egy) 6-2, 7-6(4) to win the Round of 16 yesterday in the Eighth Bahrain Junior International Tennis Federation (ITF) Championships hosted by the Bahrain Tennis Club (BTC) in Juffair.

In poor day for the seeded players, Viktor Jovic from Serbia knocked out second seeded Armin Rostami  from Iran 6-2, 6-1, Swiss Andrija Pavlovic knocked out fourth seeded Christian Linge  of Norway) 6-1, 6-3 and Briton Sebastian Tong beat fifth seeded Bahraini Ali Dawani (Brn)  6-3, 7-5.

In other matches, the Bahrain flag was still flying as Elyas Abdulnabi knocked out Lebanon’s sixth seed Tamim Hallak (Lib) 6-1, 6-1, while in other matches, seventh seed Fahad Al Janahi of the UAE was a 6-3, 6-2 winner over Aaryan Zaveri  from India, Siddharth Thakran from India beat Japan’s Yusuke Tamaki (Jpn) 2-6, 7-5, 6-4 and third seed from Egypt beat Turkish player Adham Gaber 7-5, 6-3.
