Bahrain religious cleric jailed for illegal demo
Manama : The Lower Criminal Court has sentenced a religious cleric to one year behind bars for participating in an illegal demonstration.
The defendant was convicted in connection with taking part in the demonstration that broke out after infamous religious figure Isa Qassim was stripped of his Bahraini nationality.
Isa Qassim’s nationality was revoked due to the role he had played in creating a radical atmosphere and working to divide the Bahraini society.
Earlier, Northern Governorate Prosecutor Hassan Al Muhaiza announced that the Public Prosecution had received a complaint from Budaiya Police Station stating that several people participated in an illegal gathering in Duraz.
Five defendants were questioned in connection with the incident.
