Indian girls' abductor charged, remanded

Manama : The main suspect in the abduction of an Indian girl last Tuesday in Hoora has been charged and remanded, officials have announced.

The 38-year-old Bahraini man reportedly drove off the car while the girl, Sarah, was sitting in the back seat. It happened when her mother went to a cold store in Hoora.

The Public Prosecution summoned the suspect who is in custody and charged him based on the result of the report compiled by the forensic doctor assigned to examine the victim, said Family and Child Prosecution Chief Prosecutor and Acting Advocate General Mooza Al-Na'ar.

“The suspect confessed in detail to all of the charges levelled against him,” added Mr Al-Na'ar.

The suspect had earlier tried to justify his actions by claiming that he was only trying to help the five-year-old girl find her parents.

According to his initial statement to the police, the suspect was walking in the area when he saw the girl crying alone inside the vehicle. He claimed that he had driven the car to find the girl’s parents.

A police team found the abandoned car in Hoora at 4am, around six hours after receiving the mother’s complaint. Further investigations led to the suspect’s arrest.

When police arrested him from his house, the girl was not with him. The suspect said that he had kept the girl in an apartment in Hoora.

Later police went there and found the girl, who was crying, with an Asian woman, and is yet to reveal the nationality of the 37-year-old woman.

DT News had reported earlier that Sarah was found after a nationwide search, which resulted in the detection of the kidnapper and his apparent aide. The prosecution also announced that the victim had been examined by a coroner to determine if she was physically assaulted.
