Series of fire accidents cast doubt on negligence

Manama : Lack of vigil could be cited as one of the reasons behind the spate of fire accidents in the past few days. Civil Defence General Director Brigadier Mohammed Showaiter announced earlier this year that many fire-related accidents reported in 2015 were due to negligence.

“Lack of periodic maintenance of electrical appliances or leaving the mobile phones on the charger for long period are some of the main causes of fire accidents,” Showaiter added back then.

The fire that erupted in Mayoof Restaurant in the pottery-manufacturing village in the Northern Governorate on Friday noon has caused severe damage to the property.

Speaking to DT News yesterday, the owner of Mayoof Restaurant, Kadhim Mayoof, informed that they had lost refrigerators, cookers, barbecue kits and other electrical devices, in addition to the interiors of the restaurant. Mayoof added that they stay on the flats above the restaurant.

This incident follows three fire accidents, reported on Thursday in different parts of the country.

A fire accident was reported at the scrap area near Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) factory in the southeast parts of the island. No human losses or injuries were reported in the accident.

Another scrap went up in flames in Salmabad destroying seven vehicles that was parked in the area.

“Three Civil Defence vehicles extinguished the fire late night on Wednesday in a car maintenance workshop in Salmabad and prevented the flames from spreading to nearby cars,” Interior Ministry said in a statement issued on Thursday.

The statement read: “Civil Defence Deputy General Director said that the fire-fighting teams rushed to the scene and extinguished the fire. It started in a parked car and the fire damaged six other cars. No casualties were reported and investigations were launched to identify the reason behind the fire.”

More over, another fire accident was reported in a first-class restaurant in Manama on Thursday evening. No injuries were reported as Civil Defence firemen quickly put out the fire.
