Bahrain has activated a 24- hour operations room to safeguard national food supplies and ensure a steady flow of essential goods, Industry and Commerce Minister Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro told Parliament in response to an MP Hassan Ebrahim’s question.

He said staple food stocks remain sufficient to meet local demand despite regional tensions affecting trade routes, with imports continuing through multiple supply channels.

“The stock of staple food items in the Kingdom is sufficient for a suitable period, with goods still reaching markets through various import channels,” the minister said.

Price Monitoring

The ministry has intensified inspections to prevent unjustified price increases and is taking action against violators.

Authorities shut down four businesses for unjustified price increases. One case was referred to the Public Prosecution, while others received warnings and were ordered to correct their pricing.

Inspection teams are carrying out daily checks across markets, shops, warehouses, and supply centres, reviewing invoices, supply chains, and costs to ensure compliance.

24/7 Monitoring System

Fakhro said price changes must be linked to clear factors such as import or operating costs, not exploitation.

He added that a round-theclock operations room has been set up, along with liaison officers for key suppliers to speed up logistics and resolve disruptions.

A national working group established under Ministerial Order No. 32 of 2023, coordinates food security efforts, involving public and private sector entities to monitor supplies and prepare emergency plans.

The ministry is also working with the Economic Development Board to strengthen local food production while cooperating with GCC partners to secure regional supply chains.
