Bahrain Deepens Global Partnerships at Munich Security Conference

Talks with Latvia and Theresa May spotlight UN Security Council priorities and conflict resolution efforts

Bahrain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, held a series of high-level meetings in Munich on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, underscoring the Kingdom’s commitment to strengthening international partnerships across security, human rights and technology sectors.

Coordination Ahead of UN Security Council Term

In talks with Latvia’s Foreign Minister, Baiba Braže, discussions focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation and coordinating positions as both countries prepare to serve as non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council for the 2026–2027 term.

The two sides reviewed the steady development of relations and explored ways to deepen collaboration in areas of shared interest. They also exchanged views on regional and international developments, stressing the importance of joint efforts to reduce tensions, resolve conflicts and promote sustainable peace in the Middle East and Europe.

Human Rights and Anti-Trafficking Cooperation

Dr. Al Zayani also met with Baroness Theresa May, former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Chair of the Global Commission on Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking.

The meeting highlighted the historic ties between Bahrain and the UK, as well as opportunities to enhance cooperation with the Commission in combating human trafficking. The Foreign Minister reaffirmed Bahrain’s progress in protecting and promoting human rights, noting the Kingdom’s Tier 1 ranking in the US State Department’s Trafficking in Persons Report for the eighth consecutive year.

Both sides also discussed Bahrain’s priorities during its upcoming Security Council membership, alongside other issues of mutual concern.

Boosting Digital and AI Cooperation with Oracle

In a further meeting, the Foreign Minister met with Safra Catz, Chief Executive Officer of Oracle Corporation, to review cooperation between Bahrain and the global technology firm in information technology.

The discussions focused on collaboration in artificial intelligence training, cloud computing and opportunities in secure digital infrastructure. The importance of continued investment in information technology was emphasized as a driver of economic growth and sustainable development. The meeting also included an exchange of views on issues of common interest.

All meetings were attended by Ambassador Ahmed Ibrahim Al Qurainees, Bahrain’s Ambassador to Germany, Ambassador Saeed Abdulkhaliq, Head of the Coordination and Follow-up Sector, and members of the Minister’s accompanying delegation.
