Proposed amendments to the laws regulating medical practice and allied health professions are set to be introduced during the Nineteenth Ordinary Session of the Fourth Annual meeting of the Sixth Legislative Chapter, marking a significant regulatory update within the healthcare sector.
Two draft laws submitted by the government will be presented to Parliament. The first seeks to amend Article 29 of Decree Law No 7 of 1989 concerning the practice of human medicine and dentistry. The second proposes amendments to Article 23 of Decree Law No. 2 of 1987 regulating the practice of allied medical professions by non-physicians and non-pharmacists.
Both drafts are expected to be referred to the Services Committee as the primary committee, with the Legislative and Legal Affairs Committee assigned to provide technical observations.
The proposed revisions signal a broader review of professional standards and oversight mechanisms within Bahrain’s healthcare framework. Lawmakers anticipate assessing whether the amendments strengthen licensing controls, professional accountability and compliance requirements.
As healthcare services continue to evolve, regulatory precision remains central to safeguarding patient rights and maintaining institutional standards. The upcoming session will therefore serve as the first parliamentary stage in determining whether the proposed changes align with modern medical practice and governance expectations.
Attention will focus not only on technical wording but also on the wider implications for professional regulation and public health integrity.
