Government Approves New National Anti-Smoking Framework
His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, issued Resolution No. (74) of 2025 approving the reformation of the National Committee for Combating Smoking and All Types of Tobacco and its Products. The decision was made following a proposal by the Minister of Health and the approval of the Cabinet.
Under the resolution, the committee will be chaired by the Minister of Health, with membership including representatives from key government entities:
Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health, Ministry of Health
Director of Inspection and Standards, Ministry of Industry and Commerce
Director of Environmental Communication and Awareness, Supreme Council for Environment
Director of Human Resources, Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture
Director of Customs Compliance and Risk Management, Ministry of Interior
Director of Tax Policy, National Bureau for Revenue
Director of the Media Office, National Communication Centre
Head of School Health, Ministry of Education
Head of Medical Services, Primary Health Care Centres
President of the Anti-Smoking Society
The Head of the Tobacco Control Group at the Ministry of Health’s Public Health Directorate will serve as the committee’s rapporteur.
Committee members will serve a renewable three-year term.
The resolution also allows the committee to seek input from experts and specialists when needed, without granting them voting rights.
The decree cancels Resolution No. (40) of 2022 regarding the previous formation of the committee.
The Minister of Health and relevant authorities are tasked with implementing the provisions of this resolution, which will take effect the day after its publication in the Official Gazette.
