Port Cargo rises slightly as vehicle arrivals reach 3,872

Khalifa bin Salman Port handled 37,473 standard containers in October, a 0.997 per cent rise on the same month last year, while general cargo dropped to 25,384 tonnes, down 30.72 per cent, new figures from Ports and Maritime Navigation Affairs at the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications show.
The monthly record also lists 3,872 vehicles received at the port and 64 ships calling in. During the month, the port unit issued 29 commercial licences, granted 227 ship departure certificates, and carried out 10 inspection visits.
Cargo moving through private berths rose year on year. Liquid cargo reached 1,634,495.19 metric tonnes in October this year, compared with 813,241.78 metric tonnes in October 2024. Solid cargo totalled 2,903,658.004 metric tonnes, up from 2,118,320 metric tonnes a year earlier.
Ports and Maritime Navigation Affairs is in charge of licensing maritime business activity, including private berths used for industry or passenger transport, and it supervises shipping agents and related services. It also runs routine checks on private berths to make sure they meet technical and operating rules and apply safety, security and environmental standards.
