Southern Governorate Celebrates International Day of Older Persons

The Southern Governorate hosted a community event marking the International Day of Older Persons under the theme “We Value Your Contributions.” The celebration was held in collaboration with the Abdullah bin Khalid Parent Care Center at the Wisdom Society for Retirees, with the presence of His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Ali Al Khalifa, Governor of the Southern Governorate.

The event included a ceremony and an accompanying exhibition, attended by Mr. Abdullah Ibrahim Abdulatif, Chairman of the Southern Municipal Council; Brigadier Hamad Mohammed Al Khayyat, Deputy Governor; Mr. Mahmood Abdulwahid Turki, Assistant Undersecretary for Social Care and Rehabilitation at the Ministry of Social Development; as well as a number of officials and residents of the governorate. Wide participation also came from residents of parent care centers.

On this occasion, His Highness the Governor affirmed the Southern Governorate’s commitment to providing all forms of support and care for senior citizens, emphasizing the values of partnership and community solidarity. He praised the vital role of older persons in building and serving society, noting that the event reflects the governorate’s keenness to engage them in social and developmental initiatives as an essential pillar of the community.

During the celebration, Dr. Hassan Kamal, Board Member of the Wisdom Society for Retirees, expressed his appreciation to His Highness the Governor for his generous initiative, highlighting that the event embodies respect and gratitude toward older citizens. He commended the governorate’s efforts to mark this international occasion as a way to strengthen community partnership and uphold values of loyalty and appreciation.

At the close of the event, His Highness the Governor received a commemorative gift from the Abdullah bin Khalid Parent Care Center and toured the accompanying handicrafts exhibition, which showcased works and products by residents of parent care institutions.
