The Youth Affairs Committee of the Shura Council, chaired by Mr. Redha Ibrahim Monfaridi, has praised the decision of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty the King and President of the Supreme Council for Women, to establish the Women in Sports Committee under the leadership of Dr. Shaikha Hessa bint Khalid Al Khalifa, a member of the Supreme Council for Women.

The committee described the initiative as a clear reflection of the Kingdom’s commitment to strengthening Bahraini women’s presence in sports and promoting the principles of equal opportunities and gender balance.

It also expressed deep appreciation for the continuous support of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, towards empowering Bahraini women. The Youth Committee affirmed that this decision will help highlight Bahraini women’s success stories in sports, cementing their role as key partners in achieving sustainable development goals and advancing the National Plan for the Advancement of Bahraini Women (2025–2026).

According to the Youth Committee, the establishment of the new body represents a major step forward for women’s sports in Bahrain, ensuring continued and unlimited support for female athletes across a variety of sports and international arenas. The decision is expected to encourage greater female participation in local and international championships while reinforcing Bahrain’s overall progress in the sports and youth sectors.

The committee highlighted the committee’s responsibilities, which include studying women’s participation in sports, supporting their involvement in different fields, integrating their needs into national policies, monitoring participation levels, identifying challenges, and putting forward recommendations, policies, and plans. These measures were described as pioneering steps to strengthen Bahraini women’s presence locally, regionally, and globally.

Finally, the Youth Affairs Committee commended the complementary role of government bodies, the private sector, and civil society in supporting women’s sports, stressing that this cooperation will open broader opportunities for Bahraini women to achieve more successes and raise the Kingdom’s profile on the global sports map.
