Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty the King and President of the Supreme Council for Women, has issued Decision No. (8) of 2025 establishing the “Women in Sports Committee.”
The committee will be chaired by Dr. Shaikha Hessa bint Khalid Al Khalifa, member of the Supreme Council for Women, and will include representatives from key entities such as the Bahrain Olympic Committee, the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, Rashid Equestrian and Horse Racing Club, the General Sports Authority, the Ministry of Finance and National Economy, the Ministry of Youth Affairs, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education, the Bahrain Paralympic Committee, as well as two experienced sports figures.
According to the decision, the committee’s primary goal is to assess the participation of Bahraini women in sports, enhance their involvement across various sporting fields, and ensure women’s needs are integrated into national policies and initiatives. This aligns with the principles of equal opportunity and gender balance, while supporting the development of women’s sports in Bahrain.
The committee’s responsibilities include monitoring women’s participation in sports, identifying challenges and barriers, and submitting recommendations to address them. It will also propose supportive policies, initiatives, and training programs that contribute to the implementation of the National Plan for the Advancement of Bahraini Women (2025–2026). Furthermore, it will work on measures to increase women’s representation in local, regional, and international sports federations and committees.
Additionally, the committee will focus on strengthening coordination between government entities, private sector organizations, and civil society — including sports clubs and youth centers — to advance women’s sports. It will also highlight success stories of Bahraini women athletes and track the extent to which women benefit from budgets allocated to sports federations and national clubs for tournaments, training programs, and participation in various sporting disciplines.
The decision stipulates that the membership of the “Women in Sports Committee” will last for two years, renewable. The Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Women will issue the decision appointing the committee’s members and regulating its work.
