Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty the King and President of the Supreme Council for Women, has issued a new decision to establish the “Women in Media Committee” as part of national efforts to advance the role of Bahraini women.

The decision, marked as Resolution No. (6) for 2025, follows discussions held during a media gathering in April where the 2025–2026 National Plan for the Advancement of Bahraini Women was presented. The initiative reflects a growing recognition of the media's role in showcasing Bahrain’s achievements, particularly in highlighting the contributions and progress of Bahraini women.

According to the resolution, the committee will focus on studying the current status of women working in media, promoting their leadership capabilities, and reinforcing their presence as key contributors to national development. It also aims to strengthen ties with media institutions, improve the portrayal of women in the media, and boost women's influence in the industry.

Key responsibilities of the committee include:

  • Reviewing laws and regulations affecting women in media to promote gender equality.
  • Analyzing how women are represented across television, radio, print, and social media.
  • Highlighting the success stories of Bahraini women in local and global media spaces.
  • Recommending training and awareness programs to develop women's skills in journalism and broadcasting.
  • Proposing strategies to promote the goals of the national women’s advancement plan through various media outlets.

The committee will operate for a renewable term of two years and will consist of experts from various media and communication fields. The members will be appointed by the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Women.

This initiative underscores Bahrain’s continued commitment to empowering women and fostering a more inclusive and balanced media environment.
