The Southern Area Municipality held a heartfelt ceremony to recognize the volunteers and partners who contributed to the success of the "Little Municipal Village" event, hosted at Oasis Mall in Riffa from July 12 to 18, 2025.
The event, which drew enthusiastic participation from children and their families, was praised for its fun, educational approach to raising environmental awareness.
The ceremony was led by Eng. Isa Abdulrahman Al Buainain, Director General of the Southern Area Municipality, and Mr. Abdullah Ibrahim Abdullatif, Chairman of the Southern Municipal Council. They honored numerous volunteers, public and private sector partners, Bahraini artists, and youth groups who played a key role in delivering important environmental messages in creative and child-friendly ways.
Al Buainain expressed his appreciation for the wide participation and lively engagement from children, noting that the initiative aligned with the municipality’s strategy to promote environmental awareness across the community. He emphasized the importance of instilling positive habits, encouraging cleanliness, and correcting harmful practices to support a more sustainable urban environment.
He also thanked the visitors and families who attended the event, promising that the municipality would continue organizing community-centered programs like this to promote a cleaner, greener Bahrain.
The “Little Municipal Village” featured a special lineup of beloved Bahraini entertainers, including Khalil Al Rumaithi, Bassam Ali, and Mohammed Saqr, who interacted directly with the children through games and prize giveaways, adding to the event’s joyful atmosphere.
The village included several hands-on learning zones tailored for children. Activities ranged from glass painting and upcycling plastic bottles into useful products, to making creative items from paper and cardboard. Storytelling sessions focused on environmental themes, along with face painting booths, short educational films about municipal roles, and awareness talks. Popular mascots "Saeed" and "Drooby" – the latter being a fun water bottle character made from recycled materials – helped deliver the messages in an engaging way.
In line with its commitment to community partnership, the event welcomed participation from several organizations:
Dar Al Manar Elderly Care Center, which ran a recycling booth showcasing creative ways to reuse materials at home or school;
Nabdat Hayat Volunteer Team, offering various workshops and fun activities for children;
Student volunteers from the Gulf University, who supported event organization and awareness sessions;
Ministry of Interior’s Community Police, contributing to the program’s success by engaging with families on civic and environmental responsibility.
The Southern Area Municipality reaffirmed its dedication to empowering young minds and nurturing a culture of sustainability through such inclusive and educational initiatives.
