The National Institution for Human Rights has expressed its strong approval of the United Nations General Assembly’s recent decision to designate January 28 as the International Day of Peaceful Coexistence. This decision was based on an initiative presented by the Kingdom of Bahrain, through the King Hamad Global Center for Peaceful Coexistence, in collaboration with several friendly and sister nations.

The institution praised the ongoing efforts of Bahrain, led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of Bahrain, and under the leadership of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to foster global dialogue and international understanding. This reflects Bahrain's leadership in promoting human rights and peaceful coexistence on the global stage.

The National Institution emphasized that the establishment of this international day highlights Bahrain’s significant role in supporting and promoting global peace and tolerance. It pointed to the country’s example in initiating numerous local and international projects that have strengthened values of peace, mutual understanding, and interfaith dialogue. Furthermore, Bahrain has become a global hub for peaceful coexistence and cultural diversity.

In his statement, Engineer Ali Ahmed Al-Durazi, the Chairman of the National Institution for Human Rights, affirmed that this UN decision underscores the critical importance of promoting and spreading a culture of peace and coexistence among different peoples and cultures. Especially as many regions around the world face tensions and conflicts, the need to reinforce peaceful coexistence has become more urgent than ever.

Al-Durazi called on all relevant stakeholders, including governments, international organizations, and civil society, to collaborate and support the observance of this International Day. He urged the organization of awareness-raising and educational events to encourage dialogue and understanding between cultures, while embracing principles of tolerance and mutual respect. He also commended the efforts of the United Nations and international partners in promoting global peace and security.
