The Shura Council has approved Bahrain’s accession to the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties, the international agreement that sets out the rules for drafting, adopting, and enforcing treaties.
The decision, backed by a majority, came after a report by the Foreign Affairs, Defence, and National Security Committee, with Minister of Justice, Islamic Affairs, and Waqf, His Excellency Nawaf Al Maawda, present during the session.
The convention, often called the “treaty of treaties,” lays down the principles governing agreements between states, bringing long-standing customs into a structured legal framework.
Committee rapporteur Dr Bassam Al Binmohammed said Bahrain’s accession fits with its wider push to strengthen its role in resolving international commercial disputes.
