Preventing the displacement of Palestinians from their lands is essential for achieving lasting peace in the Middle East, Bahrain’s Foreign Minister said yesterday, calling for an emergency Arab summit in Cairo.
Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani reaffirmed that the Arab position on the Palestinian cause remains steadfast and united, stressing that regional stability depends on “safeguarding the rights of the Palestinian people, preventing their displacement from their lands, and establishing an independent Palestinian state with full sovereignty.”
His remarks come amid the recent statements by former US President Donald Trump, who suggested that the US could take control of Gaza and oversee its redevelopment. Speaking at a news conference, Trump said, “The US will take over the Gaza Strip, and we will do a job with it, too. We’ll own it and be responsible for dismantling all of the dangerous unexploded bombs and other weapons on the site.” He also hinted that his plan could involve deploying US troops in Gaza “if necessary.” The comments have sparked widespread international backlash.
Bahrain’s Foreign Minister also emphasized the importance of enabling peaceful coexistence with Israel in line with international resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
The proposed Arab summit aims to provide a platform for political consultation on recent regional developments. As the president of the 33rd Arab Summit, Bahrain seeks to de-escalate tensions, maintain the ceasefire in Gaza, facilitate urgent humanitarian aid for civilians, and advance efforts to secure the release of hostages and detainees.
