The parliamentary committee that probes rotten meat scandal is looking for extension, Chairman of the committee Jamal Buhassan told DT News yesterday.
He said the committee could not complete its work in the given time frame, which ends on June 3. He said in today’s weekly meeting they would discuss the issue and would hopefully extend it for four months.
He stated the overall situation was very complex and it was not possible for the committee to cover all the areas in the specified time period. He said, to whichever site they went, things were not tidy and clean by any means. They really needed to improve their conditions, he said.
Khalifa Al Ghanem (Deputy Chairman), MPs Jamal Dawood, Abdulrahman Buali, Majed Al Majed, Osama Alkhaja, Nasser Al Qasseer, Ali Al Moqla, Mohammed Milad and Roua Al Hayki are the members of the committee.
Rotten meat scandal broke out in mid January when the health officers seized a consignment of frozen meat unfit for eating.
Immediately after the incident, the government banned the import of frozen meat through Bahrain Live Stock Company.
It also set up the Parliamentary Committee to investigate and identify the weaknesses in the meat imports system and suggest ways to avoid such incidents in the future.
