Winners crowned by Shaikh Nasser

HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of Bahrain Olympic Committee and Honorary President of Bahrain Royal Equestrian and Endurance Federation (BREEF) yesterday crowned the winners of opening 120km, 80km qualifying endurance races at Bahrain International Endurance Village, in the presence of HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of Bahrain Athletic Federation and Captain of Al Khalidya Stables.

The winner was Emirati rider Salim Al Katbi (four hours 35 minutes) from Al Ruood Stables with a 26 kmph speed, which comes under Bahrain Royal Endurance Team, while the second place went to Bahraini rider Rashid Al Rowaee (4:37.00) from Al Zaeem Stables and Emirati rider Mohammed Al Sha’afar (4:39.12) from Al Ruood Stables came in third place.

Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid Al Khalifa, President of Breef and Shaikh Duaij bin Salman Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Endurance Committee at Breef were also present at the awarding ceremony.

Shaikh Nasser appreciated the efforts by the winners and the rest of the contenders who showed high levels of performance, indicating a strong endurance season ahead. He underscored that equestrian and endurance sports are supported by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

On his part, Shaikh Khalid expressed his optimism about the recently launched endurance season as the opening race showed high technical levels and talents of the participants.

The race included seven contests divided among two categories (120km, 80km races).

In the 120 km race, contesters competed in four stages that included a 40km stage, two 30km stages and a 20km stage. The 80km category was over three stages, two 30km stages and a 20km stage.
