Heroes return to warm welcome

Bahrain’s national triathlon team was given a special welcome reception on return from Sharma El Shaikh in Egypt where they clinched three gold and a silver medal at the Pan Arab African Duathlon Championships held recently in Sharm Al Shaikh, Egypt.

Maali Tawer clinched gold along with Sameera Al Bitar and Abdulla Attiya in the female and male categories, while Hamad Al Mansoori clinched silver in the under 23 male category. The delegation was received on arrival by BOC general secretary Abdulrahman Askar, Bahrain Triathlon Association president Shaikh Saqer bin Salman Al Khalifa, association vice-president Yousef Al Thawadi and association board member May Al Haji.

Askar conveyed greetings and congratulations of His Majesty the King’s Representative for Charity and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee President Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa to members of the team.

Askar said he was extremely delighted over this achievement, which underlines the developed level of Bahraini triathletes, in line with the continued support of Shaikh Nasser.

The Bahrain team members expressed pleasure for the exceptional reception received after the results they had achieved in Egypt.

They thanked Shaikh Nasser for the support offered to the team, which was major booster for them to excel in this regional challenge and stressed their determination to continue their outstanding performances in future events.

Meanwhile, Bahrain’s Elite 13 Team triathletes had further success in an Ironman 70.3 Triathlon Championship, held in Da Nang, Vietnam on Sunday winning first places in both the male and female categories through James Cunnama and Caroline Steffen respectively.
