Non-payment of salaries irks private school teachers

ManamaTeachers of Bahrain private school who were terminated without notice are sore over non-payment of salaries for the past several months.

“I have been working with the school for the past 7 years and without notice they terminated me. I, along with the other faculty members, kept going to the school and asking the management to clear our pending salaries but they even refuse to see us or even speak to us,” said Sarah (name changed), a teacher at the school.

“I have been with the school for the past three years and they owe me more than BD600.The HR refuses to respond to us and the management refuses to speak to us. They keep telling that the school doesn’t have money to pay for the staff but one of my students told me that he just paid BD900 to get his certificates cleared. It is very difficult for me as I am the only breadwinner of my family. The owner of the school is always on vacation and is always travelling,” said Mariam (name changed), another teacher.

“Both of my daughters were teachers at that school and both terminated without notice. The school owes one of my daughters BD560 while the other was paid BD1248. Also as per LMRA, a mother has a right to 60 days of maternity leave but she was only given 30 days and when she went back to school after her leave the management told her we aren’t going to pay you whether you come or don’t come to the school,” said  the father of two teachers  who were terminated.

The management is cheating us and they have been stalling our salaries for ever. Whenever we go to the school, the office manager tells us that the HR or the owner is not available. If we tried calling them and speak to them they don’t return our calls back,” he said.

“They seem to be having the money but still continue to be cheating the staff and denying them their rightfully earned money,” he added.
