HH Shaikha Moza bint Hamad Medical Grant launched

ManamaAl Mabarrah Al Khalifia Foundation (MKF) and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland – Medical University of Bahrain (RCSI Bahrain) -  have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for ‘Her Highness Shaikha Moza bint Hamad Medical Grant’, which will be presented by Al Mabarrah as part of the Rayaat scholarship programme.

H.H. Shaikha Zain bint Khalid Al Khalifa, Chairperson of Al Mabarrah Al Khalifia Foundation, stressed that the Foundation aims to provide educational opportunities to young people across different academic aspirations in universities and leading educational institutions in the Kingdom.

“Our mission is to create a generation capable of continuing the development of the Kingdom of Bahrain across all sectors,” she added.

Also speaking on the launch of the initiative, RCSI Bahrain President, Professor Sameer Otoom said it was an honour for the university to name a scholarship for medicine after HRH Sh. Moza Bint Hamad and extended thanks to Her Highness Sh. Zain Bin Khalid Al Khalifa and all the members of the Al Mabarrah Al Khalifia Foundation on their efforts to support and empower Bahrain’s youth.

“We are hoping that this relationship will be further developed in the future for the benefit of Bahraini citizens,” he added.

The signing ceremony was attended by H.H. Sh. Zain bint Khalid Al Khalifa, Chairperson of Al Mabarrah Al Khalifia Foundation, alongside Board Members Sh. May bint Khalifa Al Khalifa, Sh. Hend bint Ali Al Khalifa and Lulwa bint Khalifa Al Khalifa, and Head of Rayaat Program Ms. Noora Isa Bin Hindi, as well as Supreme Council for Health Chairman, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Alkhalifa.

Professor Sameer Otoom also attended, alongside RCSI Bahrain’s Head of School Nursing and Midwifery Prof Seamus Cowman; Head of School of Postgraduate Studies and Research, Prof Davinder Sandhu, Head of Quality Enhancement Dr. Kathryn Strachan, Senior Lecturer in Family Medicine Dr Ghufran Jassim, and Head of Student Services and Events, Ms May Maher.

Applications for this scholarship, which covers all tuition fees as well as other benefits pertaining to the Rayaat programme, will be available from July 2 to July 22, 2017. Students will be selected according to a set of criteria. Eligible applicants must be Bahraini, a fresh graduate, achieved 98 per cent and above in secondary school in the field of science. 

The student must complete all the necessary procedures and apply to the university. The applicant also should not be the recipient of another scholarship or financial assistance from the government or private entities.

The “Rayaat Scholarship’ program was launched in 2011, in line with the foundation’s vision to provide students with scholarship opportunities at accredited universities in the Kingdom in order to create an ambitious generation that can play an integral part in developing the community.
