Sheikha Dr Suad Al Sabah wins Arab Woman Award

ManamaSheikha Dr Suad Al Sabah of Kuwait has been honoured with the Arab Woman Award for 2016 for her prominent role in promoting Arab women’s position, and serving Arabic culture and arts.

She was one among the many awarded during a ceremony hosted by the Arab Women Foundation in London on Thursday to honour creative Arab women in diverse realms.

Sheikha Dr Suad’s representative Sheikha Omnia Abdullah Al Mubarak Al Sabah said that in spite of hardships and incalculable social restrictions, Arab women could make their own way by holding high-level posts in various domains.

“She had devoted herself to promoting Arab women’s position and providing intellectual, cultural, scientific, social and human services at both local and Arab levels,” Sheikha Omnia said, mentioning her intellectual, cultural and
poetic contributions, as well as relentless support to writers through the Suad Al-Sabah Polishing and Distribution House.

Amira Al Taweel of Saudi Arabia (for community leadership), Iman Ayadh (media), Taghreed Hekmat (law) and Asmhan Al Oufi (science) were also honoured at the ceremony.

The list also included Salwa Al Idrisi (business), Sawsan Al Shaer of Bahrain (writing), Haseeba Bulqamra of Algeria (sports), Jannat Al Jemeeli (an Iraqi girl of special needs, for art), Mazoon Rakan (a Syrian girl, for learning) and the late chairwoman of Sharjah Businesswomen Council Amira bin Makram.
